SERMON NOTES
Series: Nehemiah
Scripture: Nehemiah 2:1-20
Title: Living Like We Believe
BIG IDEA
Faith in Jesus isn't just something we profess with our mouths. It's something that should change the way we live. Faithfulness to God requires us to trust Him, step out in courage, prepare wisely, and work together for His mission.
1. WAIT ON THE LORD
Nehemiah waited four months before approaching the king.
Waiting on the Lord doesn't mean doing nothing. It means actively trusting Him while we pray, prepare, and remain faithful.
Just because God hasn't changed your situation doesn't mean He isn't working in your situation.
Key Scripture: Romans 8:28
2. BE PEOPLE OF COURAGE
Faithfulness to Jesus will require us to step outside our comfort zones.
Following Jesus isn't about living comfortably. It's about trusting Him enough to obey, even when we don't know how everything will work out.
Our courage doesn't come from confidence in ourselves, but confidence in who God is.
Our greatest battle has already been won through the finished work of Christ.
Key Scripture: Luke 9:23
3. BE PREPARED AND MAKE A PLAN
Nehemiah didn't waste his waiting time. He prayed, repented, waited, and prepared.
When the opportunity came, he was ready with a plan.
We should be intentional with our time and prepare for the opportunities God gives us.
The mission is urgent because people need to hear the good news of Jesus.
Key Scripture: Ephesians 5:15–16
4. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE ALL IN
Nehemiah didn't try to rebuild the walls by himself. He invited others into the mission.
God designed the church to function as a body, with every believer using their gifts to serve one another.
There is no role or gift that is insignificant.
You might not be able to do everything, but you can do something.
We need one another to grow in faith and faithfully carry out God's mission.
Key Scripture: Proverbs 27:17; 1 Peter 4:10
WHEN OPPOSITION COMES, STAND FIRM
Opposition is to be expected when we faithfully follow Jesus.
Our responsibility isn't to make everybody happy or win everybody's approval.
Our responsibility is to remain faithful to what God has called us to do.
We must be more concerned with being faithful to God than being loved by the world.
Key Scripture: Nehemiah 2:19–20

REFLECTION & APPLICATION
Is there an area of your life where you need to stop trying to take control and learn to wait on the Lord?
What is one step of faith God is calling you to take, even if it makes you uncomfortable?
Are you being intentional with your time and preparing for the opportunities God gives you?
Are you surrounded by other believers who are helping you grow in your faith?
How are you using the gifts God has given you to build up the church?
Does the way you live back up the gospel message you proclaim?
